For 23 years Chris Gascoyne has captured the hearts of the nation as Coronation Street ’s Peter Barlow, but the actor recently broke the hearts of fans everywhere when he revealed he was leaving the show to pursue other projects.
Although the details surrounding the much-loved character’s exit are currently a closely guarded secret – and no word has yet been given as to whether or not the exit will be permanent, fans couldn’t help but feel the sting of losing one of the ITV soap’s most cherished characters.
Stepping away from the role, Chris will instead be turning his attention towards the theatre stage, when he performs as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan at the Alban Arena between December 8-31.
It isn’t all about work however either, as his break from Corrie also means he has more time to spend with his soap star wife, Emmerdale actress Caroline Harding at their chic home in Salford.
Although Chris has seldom posted too many glimpses of his home life on social media, fans have been treated to glimpses inside his stunning pad on a handful of occasions, most notably during the pandemic lockdown.
In one snap taken from his home, Chris could be seen sporting a very vintage inspired look, as he posed alongside a chic collection of furnishings, including a cream sofa, and vintage style lamp positioned on a small console table.
In addition, a bookcase could be seen in the rear of the shot adorned with framed photographs and various ornaments, while a clothes airer added a touch of down to earth normality to the otherwise swanky pad.
Interestingly, the wall in this particular room featured a timber effect detailed panel, that offered a unique sense of character to the space, instead of relying on humble wallpaper or a plain painted finish.
A second snap also featured the same room, this time in black and white, and gave fans an even closer look at some of the finer details of the space he and Caroline share.
One standout addition was a gorgeous radiator cover, and of course plenty of plants to bring some of the outdoors in – a vital necessity during lockdown!
Elsewhere in the property, the home continued to adopt shades of blue, grey and teal as Chris moved to the kitchen, where slimline wall units with decorative handles could clearly be seen beside a grey tiled splash back.
A large white mirror was visible in the very edge of the shot, while a sink and kitchen worktop were positioned behind the couple’s comfortable sofa, indicating an open plan living/dining area.
Turning our attention towards the sofa, the cream plush three seater, was blessed with a touch of colour, as several large green scatter cushions were strewn across it along with a grey blanket to add an extra cozy flair to the space.
The real scene stealer in the photo however, was Chris himself, who had cheekily donned a t-shirt, which featured the Gaelic phrase Pogue Mahone, a variant of póg mo thóin meaning “kiss my a**e.”
Coronation Street continues Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV and ITVX
