Eastenders Christmas spoilers: Shirley rumbles Janine

Linda Henry starred as Shirley Carter from 2006 to 2023, and her on-screen son Danny Dyer played the role of the lovable Mick Carter.

The two worked together for some tough storylines, from finding out they were in fact mother and son rather than sister and brother to Shirley’s second son, Dean Wicks (played by Matt Di Angelo) raping Mick’s wife, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright).

Danny decided to leave the soap and his last scenes came in December 2022 when his character tried to save Linda after Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) crashed their car into the sea.

Sadly, Mick didn’t emerge after Linda and Janine managed to get out of the water and he is presumed dead.

Shirley was heartbroken to lose her son and decided it was time for her to leave the Square.

Off-screen, she reunited with her daughter and has been staying with her ever since.

However, she has worked alongside Danny before. Back in 2005, she played a minor role in crime thriller The Business alongside the actor.

Secret EastEnders role before Shirley

While Shirley Carter joined Walford in 2006, Linda had been in the soap before as a different character.

Back in 1991, she played Lorraine Salter, the troubled mother of Mandy Slater (Nicola Stapleton).

A few years ago a fan pointed out on social media that Linda had previously starred in the soap along with a throwback photo, leaving viewers stunned.

Before joining the soap as Shirley, Linda was best known for her role in Bad Girls as Yvonne Atkins.

She made a name for herself in the role on the show between 2001 and 2004.

Her character met a brutal end after she was locked in an underground cell by arch-enemy Jim Fenner (John Stuart Ellis).

Private marriage to long-term partner

While Shirley had a turbulent time with relationships on the Square, Linda’s story is completely different.

The 63-year-old has been married to long-term partner Stavros Valiris since 1992.

The couple share one daughter, who was born the year after they got married.

Linda seems to keep her life outside of work private, with not much known about her marriage or family life.
