ITV Coronation Street’s Alan Halsall reveals he’s had major surgery with long recovery

Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has revealed he's had major surgery with a long recovery process ahead – up to a year.

The 41 year old, who is best-known for playing the role of Tyrone Dobbs on Corrie, took to Instagram to share his news with his 233k followers.

He could be seen lying on a bed in comfy black clothes as he put a positive thumbs up to the camera, as he added a box that read: "ACL reconstruction surgery," with a tick and the date of his surgery, which was on November 3.

In his caption, Alan wrote: "Reconstruction surgery.

"Well, On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. I have been told the surgery went really well.

"I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I’m sure with the support of family & friends I’ll get there.

"Thank you to the amazing! Staff at Oaklands xx ..and also Thanks to my very own nurse Ratched
@missdrewmerry93."

He finished his post by adding: "Any rehab tips or advise??"

His Coronation Street co-star Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor in the soap, rushed to offer some words of support to her pal.

She wrote in the comments on the post: "Rest. Up. holler if you need some grapes."

Claire Sweeney, who plays Alan's character Tyrone's addiction-embattled mother in the soap, wrote: "This is great news, glad it was a success xxxx".

Ryan Thomas, who played Jason Grimshaw on the soap from 2000 until 2016, simply added a red love heart emoji.

More support from the Corrie cast came in the form of Colson Smith, aka Craig Tinker on Corrie, wrote: "Get that rested up for Christmas party."

While actress Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby, penned: "Aw recover well, darling."

Alan has played Tyrone on Coronation street for 25 years. Since he arrived in Weatherfield in 1998, Tyrone has had a challenging journey, and after a two decade long on-off romance with Fiz, played by Jennie McAlpine, the pair tied the knot in an episode which was aired on Christmas Day last year.

However, Alan's life looks very different away from the soap, where he lives in a £750k mansion with his loving partner and former co-star Tisha Merry, as well as his nine year old daughter, Sienna-Rae, who he shares with his ex, Lucy-Jo Hudson.

The pair have shared in the past that they do want to start a family together in the future, with Tisha commenting that Alan makes "such a good dad".

She told OK!: "He’ll be so amazing. When we were still friends, I got asked to babysit and asked Alan to come along. We got there and it was just Alan babysitting.

"He’s such a good dad; he’s so caring and loving. He notices everything and his communication with Sienna is so strong. I would love that for our child if we have one."
