Jayde Adams shared her joy about being partnered with Karen Hauer when speaking to Express.co.uk ahead of the Strictly Come Dancing launch. The comedian will be the latest celebrity jiving with a same-sex partner, something the show has featured for the last three series.
Comedian and celebrity dancer Jayde revealed how she was open to dancing with anyone but was overjoyed when BBC producers decided to pair her up with Strictly veteran Karen.
The actor explained: “I am so thrilled to be with Karen. It’s fantastic, it is not something I ever thought about, I left it open to them [the producers]. When I spoke to them, I said ‘I don’t mind.’
“It does give me now an advantage because I can lift her. If I was with a guy, you know, it ain’t my fault that none of them are rugby player size are they.
“So I mean I’m going to be able to deal with the acrobatic stuff, which is actually something I’m super excited about doing because I got loads of upper body strength.”
The comedian excitedly praised the professional who’ll be putting her through vigorous training and rehearsals until potentially the end of the year.
Jayde enthused: “And she is so athletic and strong, I picked her up when we first met and she went around my waist. It’s like wearing a backpack, she’s like a spider monkey.
“We’re two strong women in totally different ways and I think you know our partnerships and it’d be really exciting.”
Jayde shares the honour with boxer Nicola Adams and Bake Off star John Whaite as the celebrities who have danced with someone of the same gender.
The partners of the hopeful celebrities battling it out to lift the Glitterball trophy were named tonight ahead of the first live performances on Saturday evening.
Ahead of the launch, Jayde announced how much she loves the glitzy BBC reality series.
The BAFTA winning actor added: “Since I watched the first series in 2004, I feel like every step I’ve taken in my career over the last 11 years was to be on Strictly.
“I cannot begin to express the emotions I am feeling, this means so much to me and my family.
She declared: “I’ve always watched it, apart from a brief hiatus in 2011 as I was relentlessly gigging every weekend (to try and get on Strictly).
“I’ve been a massive fan of the show for years.”
Jayde has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe festival as part of her stand-up show Men, I Can Save You and also starred in BBC One’s The Outlaws.
The comedian is currently middle of the pack with bookmakers as punters bet on who will bring home the coveted prize this year.
Countryfile broadcaster Helen Skelton and radio host Fleur East are currently joint favourites to be crowned Strictly champion.
Loose Women host Kaye Adams is currently the celebrity the bookies are not fancying to be celebrating in December.
However, the most tipped celebrity is neither of the leading contenders .
The star the nation has parted their cash with the most is Will Mellor, in predicting who will win this year’s competition, something Craig Revel Horwood agreed with too.
Strictly Come Dancing airs every Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
