Celebrities Joel Dommett and Chris Kamara were in the hot seat against Jeremy Clarkson for Sunday night’s edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? While comedian and The Masked Singer host Joel achieved an impressive cash prize, his lifeline Jonathan Ross clearly wasn’t happy when he received an unexpected phone call.

Jeremy explained it was a show first for him when Jonathan hung up during the phone-a-friend lifeline.

Contestant Joel revealed the talk show host was his lifeline earlier in the episode and resorted to the tactic when he was asked a tricky question about James Bond.

Joel was asked which film director had not helmed a 007 film, and was given the options of Martin Campbell, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Sam Mendes and Christopher McQuarrie.

The comedian’s Bond knowledge was sadly not up to the task, and he decided to seek Jonathan’s assistance.

“What’s his number? Say it out loud,” Jonathan joked as the phone was heard ringing.

“He’s basically the only person I knew who had a landline,” Joel quipped.

Jonathan answered the phone and Jeremy quickly made himself known and confirmed he was currently presenting the quiz show.

However, the outraged celebrity clearly didn’t want to be disturbed and made a cheeky reference to Jeremy’s Amazon Prime Video show, Clarkson’s Farm.

He fumed: “Jeremy, I’ve told you time and time again, I’m not interested in buying any potatoes!

“You’ve got to stop calling me!” he yelled and promptly hung up the phone.

Jeremy and Joel were clearly aghast, and the host said: “Has he hung up? He has hung up!

“That’s a first, there we are! Jonathan has hung up on me. Would you like to call Graham Norton? He’s a much nicer man.”

Viewers watching along at home were clearly in stitches and took to Twitter in appreciation of Jonathan’s comic timing.

@ShakyWoon exclaimed: “Jonny Ross didn’t just hang up on Joel Dommett!”

@DanJBrownMUFC tweeted: “Well played Joel. Jonathan Ross is one of the funniest Phone-A-Friends ever, and first I recall hanging up.”

“So funny. Never thought the first time in Millionaire history someone would hang up on Jeremy Clarkson,” Jay Dawes said.

“But why would @wossy hang up rather than help @joeldommett?”

@teenamassam posted laughing emojis and said: “What the hell, Jonathan Ross hung up…”

John Venicombe wrote: “Hi @wossy, you were more funny on your one-minute call to @joeldommett on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire than you have been in your 40-year career.”

And @Boppity_Boo34 laughed: “Jonathan Ross needs to be a Phone-A-Friend more often.”

Other viewers were quick to point out that Jonathan lost out on £19,000 when he appeared on the high-stakes quiz show.

Joel put in a stunning performance against quizmaster Jeremy and managed to bank a £125,000 donation for Brain Tumour Support.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire airs Sundays at 9pm on ITV.
