The ‘Unconditionally’ songstress jokingly tells Sara Beth Liebe that she has ‘been laying on the table too much’ after the contestant reveals she has three kids.
AceShowbiz –Katy Perry has come under fire over her reaction to one of the “American Idol” contestants. The “Roar” singer has been dragged by many Internet users for allegedly “mom-shaming” 25-year-old Sara Beth Liebe.
At the start of her audition, Sara revealed her age as judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan said she looked like a teenager. Getting flattered, she said, “Bless, you guys are my favorite. I have three kids.”
Katy was shocked upon hearing Sara’s revelation, she then stood up behind Luke. “If Katy lays on the table I think I’m going to pass out,” Sara said, to which the pop star replied, “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.”
The “Unconditionally” songstress went on to ask Sara if singing was her dream after the latter confessed that being a mom made her have less time for herself. “If it’s not your dream, you might need to leave because there’s a lot of dreams behind you,” the pop star told the contestant.
Sara sang Amy Winehouse‘s “You Know I’m No Good”, but Katy interrupted her by saying, “Come on, we need more… That’s not enough.” Katy then told Sara to sing “Benny and the Jets”, which Sara had revealed earlier was her first choice for the audition.
The judges gave Sara a round of applause after her audition, with Katy calling her the “accidental American Idol.” In the end, however, Katy and Bryan gave her a yes so Sara could take the golden ticket.
Still, many on Twitter were disappointed by how Katy treated Sara. “Boo to Katy Perry for mom shaming Sara Beth,” one viewer wrote. “Insinuating that she has been ‘laying on the table too much’ to have 3 kids by age 25. A young mother following a dream while raising her children should be raised up not put down. #AmericanIdol.”
“I really do not like how Katy Perry just treated Sara Beth on #AmericanIdol I don’t watch this show at all and my tv was already on the channel but what I witnessed was not right,” another tweeted. “They let Katy Perry bully this woman on live national tv before she even started singing. So ugly.”
A third person argued, “Pissssssed at how rude @katyperry was to Sara Beth on #AmericanIdol.” Someone else fumed, “WHY WERE YOU SO NASTY TO SARA BETH. YOU WERE REALLY TERRIBLE TO HER!! JUST WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!!??”
