As the sun sets on the summer of love, Love Island fans eagerly await the grand finale tonight. The heat is on, not just within the villa, but also among the show's hardworking crew members who reportedly can't wait for this rollercoaster season to reach its conclusion.
According to The Sun, the eight finalists have been causing quite a stir behind the scenes with their alleged "bad attitudes" and "entitled antics." According to an ITV source, the finalists' behaviour has taken a nosedive in recent days since they secured their spots in the final.
An insider said: “It’s been a long summer for some of the crew on Love Island and they’ve been moaning about the attitudes of the final eight stars. They have rubbed people up the wrong way.
“One of them was even accused of stealing alcohol. It’s all become a bit silly. It’s like they know the end is in sight so they can do as they please.”
However, an ITV spokesperson told The Sun: “All of our Islanders this year have been fantastic. Our focus is on the final and celebrating a series of love.”
Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki, both 25, are fan favourites to win, and all eyes are on them to clinch the coveted £50,000 top prize. However, they face stiff competition from other couples, including Tyrique Hyde, 24, and Ella Thomas, 23, Sammy Root and Jess Harding, both 22, and Zachariah Noble, 25, and Molly Marsh, 24.
Millions of viewers are expected to tune in for tonight's episode, but this season has seen a decline in overall viewership compared to previous years, with an average of around 2.7 million viewers per episode, half of what the show garnered in 2019.
Nevertheless, Love Island remains a cultural phenomenon, drawing the largest 16 to 24 age audience on a commercial channel since the World Cup and amassing an impressive 300 million streams. As the grand finale approaches, the tension in the villa is palpable. The remaining four couples are set to battle it out for the ultimate title of Love Island champions.
Throughout the season, each couple has had their share of ups and downs. Ella and Tyrique have been a strong pair from the start, weathering the storm of Casa Amor and coming out stronger on the other side. Meanwhile, Whitney and Lochan found love in Casa Amor and have been on cloud nine ever since, with Whitney even dropping hints about a potential wedding in their future.
The journey of Molly and Zachariah has been one of the most dramatic, featuring a temporary split when Molly was dumped from the island. However, fate brought them back together, and their bond has only grown stronger. Zach's heartfelt confession of love to Molly left viewers swooning.
Completing the final lineup are Jess and Sammy who have endured their fair share of challenges. Sammy's wandering eye caused tension between the pair, but he eventually realised that Jess was the one for him. Their reunion in Casa Amor paved the way for a heartfelt declaration of love, and they are now considered strong contenders for the top prize.
