Love Island fans demand vote recount as surprising final figures are announced

Love Island fans have demanded the votes to be recounted after Jess Harding and Sammy Root were crowned this year's winners.

After an intense final on Monday night (July 31), viewers were left stunned when Jess and Sammy gained the majority of fans' votes, despite favourites Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki being tipped for the win.

Sharing their disbelief on Twitter, some Love Island viewers even went as far as accusing producers of "rigging" the poll.

Heading over to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "Let’s count the votes again, something ain’t right."

Another fumed: "I don’t know how ppl could trust the British public to vote properly for the right couple when they can’t even be trusted to vote for the right government. Like be for real, but anyways the votes are deffo rigged."

A third penned: "Nah icl it’s as if the producers rigged the votes at the last hour because this win is so confusing I think even the islanders are confused."

While a fourth viewer added: "I demand a recount."

But despite the outrage from some viewers, Jess and Sammy were this summer's clear winners as they secured 34.57% of the viewers' votes.

According to the results from Monday night, Lochan and Whitney gained 26.85% of the viewers and were closely followed by Tyrique Hyde and Ella Thomas who gained 24.21%.

Coming in at fourth place, Molly Marsh and Zachariah with 14.37%.

As the winners of this year's series, Jess and Sammy have earnt £50,000 to share between them and will hopefully secure bigger deals in the near future.

But according to a brand expert, Sammy's antics in the villa could potentially cost the pair money.

Speaking to Daily Mail the expert explained: "Jess and Sammy have had quite a ride in the Love Island Villa and there have been occasions when Sammy hasn’t been particularly complementary of Jess. This may backfire on them in the real world and cost them some deals.

"I think that they will make over £500,000 from social media deals. Jess may get a fashion edit deal and Sammy potentially some sports endorsements."
