He wrote: "ONE YEAR ALCOHOL FREE. Quitting booze has been the best thing I have ever done. Hands down. No question. That doesn’t mean it’s been easy, the longer I have been alcohol free, the more I have realized the damage it was doing. More on this soon because right now… I AM SO PROUD!!

"Since giving up alcohol I have; Lost six stone in weight. Faced my demons and healed many wounds. Saved thousands and thousands of pounds. Learnt to ride motorcycles, which I love SO much. Become a more confident, calmer and happier person."

Dr Alex continued: "Fallen in love with exercise again, and never been so consistent!

"Gained at least 52 days of the year back (hangover days). Learnt to respect, appreciate and care for my body. Discovered who my friends really are and made new ones. Loved early mornings and adored hangover free Sundays. Realized that I don’t have to follow society’s idea of fun, do you and follow what makes you happy."

In his final paragraph he said: "There is so much more to say and I could go on for days, but right now I just want to reflect on this journey so far.

"Thank you to my friends and family (and yes thats you too) for supporting me.

"So many of you joined me on this AF or sober journey since I started, to you I say keep going, you got this. If you are tempted to try AF living, even for a little while, I say GO FOR IT.

"You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, in my opinion. ONE YEAR BABY!!"

Back in August, Alex said he had overhauled his lifestyle after finding himself in a really "dark" and "bad place" last year.

Alex – who tragically lost his younger brother Llyr after he took his own life in July 2020 – heartbreakingly confessed that he "didn't want to be here anymore", saying his mental and physical health was in an "awful place".

Alongside a series of photos posted this summer, Alex went on to reveal that he has quit alcohol in a bid to banish the feeling of "numbness" it provided.

In a separate social media post, Alex later addressed the question: "Do I regret going on Love Island?" as he delighted fans with his Get Ready With Me-style video.

It began with the Love Island alumni – who starred in the 2018 season – flashing his abs as he pulled a pair of black trousers over his designer boxer shorts.

He told followers if he hadn't starred on Love Island he "wouldn't be able to do the things I do right now, which I am really passionate about."

Shortly after his TV stint, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed Alex as a Youth Mental Health Ambassador.

He is using his clinical expertise and personal experience to help shape policy on improving support for young people.

One fan was quick to write in the comments section: "I think the nation and their mental health can whole heartedly say that we are very happy that you went on Love Island."
