I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! is ITV’s iconic reality show, from the terrifying Bushtucker Trials, to the unforgettable presenting duo of Ant and Dec leading the way. There are also the I’m A Celeb uniforms that fans associate with the series as the cast wear the same clothes every year. But the uniform isn’t just a fashion choice from the producers, with one element picked out for a particular reason.

Why do I’m a Celebrity stars wear red socks?

I’m A Celebrity has been airing on ITV for the past 20 years and remains one of the best-loved shows to settle down with in the winter months in the UK.

Even when the series had to be moved to Wales during the coronavirus pandemic, it still attracted millions of viewers every night.

The location may have had to be changed but the uniforms have always remained the same, including those bright red socks they all have to wear.

Former medic Bob McCarron has previously explained these coloured socks are worn especially for the viewers.

Bob was on hand for any first-aid issues until he decided to retire from the show just before the 2022 series.

During an interview with Women’s Owen regarding a previous season, he explained the red socks are used to disguise any unsightly bloodstains.

As the campmates are living in the heart of a real-life jungle, they are likely to be bitten by a number of insects, including leeches, during their stay.

So to spare fans from seeing blood marks on the celebrities’ socks, they are required to wear red socks, hiding any potential bites and scrapes the contestants might have.

Suffering from bites isn’t the only impact that appearing on I’m A Celebrity can have on your health either.

Bob also revealed on the show’s spin-off series Extra Camp: “Most people think of fungus as mushrooms but we have problems with the cast every year – especially women growing fungus on certain body parts [breasts].

“I’ve been instructing them to use the shower and personal hygiene a little bit more often.”

Sadly, Bob decided to quit the ITV series earlier this year and has since been replaced by another medic.

Much like Ant and Dec, Bob had been on I’m A Celeb from the very beginning when it first started in 2002.

He is now reportedly too busy to take part due to other work commitments, unfortunately.

Bob already hosts his own programme where he travels around Australia and takes part in the German version of I’m A Celebrity.

Earlier this year, a spokesperson for the series said: “Bob will always be a friend to the show.

“We wish him all the very best and thank him for his hard work.”

In the upcoming episode, former health secretary Matt Hancock will be given a break from taking part in the trials.

Instead, Boy George, Chris Moyles and Babatunde Aleshe are going to be challenged to Angel of Agony.

But together, will they be able to win enough stars to feed the entire camp?

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! continues every night at 9pm on ITV.
