NCIS fans are eagerly awaiting to see just how the likes of Alden Parker (played by Gary Cole) and the rest of the Washington team will work together with the likes of Los Angeles’ Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) and NCIS Hawaii’s Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) when the CBS drama returns on January 9. However, to add to the excitement surrounding the series, CBS has released the first details for the NCIS episode after, titled Bridges, which is set to air on January 16.

And the synopsis for the first episode after the historic crossover event promises to pose a major test for one of the show’s budding and hotly-anticipated romances.

Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) and Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) could find themselves having to call time on their romance just as things appeared to be on the up.

The pair have cemented themselves as one of the drama’s favourite couples as sparks flew as soon as Knight entered the fray in season 19.

Their relationship got off to a relatively slow start, however, with Jimmy still yet to move since the death of his other half Breena (Michelle Pierce) during the coronavirus pandemic.

But ever since, the two have come on leaps and bounds, protecting one another when a case threatened to put both their lives in danger.

And they’ve already shared their first kiss after Knight shared how she felt with Jimmy at the end of season 19.

But in Bridges, things could take a turn for the worse as the synopsis has hinted that “hurdles” will arise.

The plot line from CBS reads: “Parker discovers he’s a victim of identity theft while investigating the unusual murder of a Navy ensign.

“Also, Knight and Jimmy face hurdles in their relationship as their connection heightens.”

But what hurdles could the two face and could they prove terminal for the pair’s romance?

After all, the two are rather different people in many ways but do come together over their mutual interests.

But Bridges may throw up one obstacle too far given the pair have already jumped through a number of hoops to get to where they are, to begin with.

Fans might get a better idea of what lies ahead for them after the three-way crossover event airs on January 9.

A trailer has been released by CBS to tease what’s to come in the three-hour instalment as well as a synopsis for the NCIS portion.

It reads: “NCIS agents from Washington, DC, Los Angeles and Hawaii, all in DC to attend the retirement party of a beloved Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) professor, find themselves jointly investigating his shocking suicide.”

The trailer shows Jimmy will have far from an easy time of things in this episode as well.

In it, he and Tennant are shown held hostage with bags secured over their heads.

Eventually, they’re released from the clutches of a new villain played by Yellowstone’s Dawn Olivieri.

But will cracks start to show between Knight and Jimmy in the crossover or will Bridges be the one step too far?

NCIS season 20 returns to CBS in the USA on January 9. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
