Netflix fans left ‘struggling to sleep’ after ‘twisted’ thriller Dear Child airs

The book Dear Child was turned into a mini-series in German, and now it's on Netflix it's been dubbed from the original.

It tells the story of a woman who is left in an unusual predicament after an incident in a forest and she's hit by a car as she flees through the woods and wakes up in hospital in a bad state.

When she wakes up she doesn't know where she is, how long she's been gone or what her name is.

One thing she does remember is that she was raped and a handful of other things that happened to her.

A child called Hannah is with her in hospital and appears to be her daughter, but as things play out, the story keeps coming across twists and turns.

The series was released last week, and it seems to have made a big impact with a lot of Netflix fans talking about the thriller.

One user took to X and wrote: "Dear Child on Netflix is a must watch! It’s a limited serious but boy did it have me on the edge of my seat."

Another said: "Dear Child on Netflix was a really good limited series so many plot twists."

A third wrote: "I watched Dear Child on Netflix, I know I'm struggling to sleep tonight," while a fourth said: "Dear Child on Netflix is f***ing with my brain but it's definitely interesting."

Speaking of the series, co-writer and co-director Julian Porksen told Netflix's Die Woche: "These are all damaged characters: people who are severely scarred by a crime and deal with it very differently.

"The perpetrator is often the focus of such series and is glorified as a mysterious, dark force. That's not the case with us.

"And there is a main character who is extraordinary in every way. A girl who has a special view of the world, a special way of speaking, thinking and experiencing."

The story is told solely from the victim's perspective, which is something that has definitely brought in eager viewers.

Dear Child is available to stream on Netflix now.
