Before her time on the show, which is being rebooted for the BBC, she was a fitness instructor and is now the director of 2B Lightning Fit Ltd.

Taking to her Instagram account, she posted a black and white photo of herself still sporting her long, blonde hair and toned figure.

She wrote: “Monitoring condition prevents you going too far from your ‘happy place’.

“The ‘happy place’ varies for individuals. When you find it – it makes you feel good, confident and content.

She wrote: “So Incredibly sad that this amazing Lady ‘Bernadette Hunt’ has recently passed after battling with cancer.

“Such a wonderful sweet person with a beautiful soul, so kind, warm and sincere. Bernadette known as ‘FALCON’ to her fans shone bright on Gladiators between 1993-1999.

“You may have gone dear friend but you will never be forgotten. Fly to the angels Bernie and shine like the star that you were, are and always will be. Always in our hearts.”

Known as the Queen of Hang Tough, Lightning remained undefeated in the UK Arena and was only ever beaten once, during the first Ashes series in Australia.

In August 2022 the star tried on her original outfits from the series and left fans gobsmacked as they still fit perfectly.

It came just after Lightning appeared on This Morning to discuss how the show had impacted people’s lives.

She said: “It’s only now as well that I realise, and I still get lots of stories being sent to me saying, ‘You inspired me so much, you changed my life, you motivated me,’ and you think, ‘Wow’, it really was quite powerful.

“The message that it put across and how it did inspire and change people’s lives.”
