Outlander’s Sam Heughan teases ‘it doesn’t go too well’ for Jamie Fraser

Outlander | Ep. 8 Mid-Season Finale Preview

Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Outlander season seven and beyond.

The latest episode of Outlander left fans with a shocking cliffhanger. In the very last shot of the episode, Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) is shown lying on the battlefield, covered in blood and at the very least unconscious, if not fatally wounded.

And the actor who plays Jamie hasn’t given too much away while giving some insight into filming that particular episode on the Starz YouTube channel.

He announced: “The Battle of Saratoga is a big one for everyone involved.” But what he said next may leave viewers feeling rather concerned.

Sam continued: “Yes, Jamie is an older man and well, let’s just say it doesn’t go too well for him.”

So, could this be the end for the beloved character? Or is there more to the story? Well, fans should find out one way or another in the season seven midseason finale which will air next week.

If the books by Diana Gabaldon, that the series is based, on are anything to go by, it isn’t the end for Jamie. But that’s not to say that the series won’t go in a different direction from the source material.

In a short trailer for the next episode, titled Turning Points, Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) searches the battlefield for her husband.

She soon stumbles across a soldier laying facedown, only to turn him over and discover that the fallen man is her husband.

And Starz, which airs the show in the US, may have already revealed whether or not Jamie survives.

According to the channel’s official description of episode eight, it outlines: “Jamie fights in the pivotal Second Battle of Saratoga; Roger and Brianna search for Jemmy.”

But given that Sam doesn’t specify which Battle of Saratoga it is that “doesn’t go too well for him,” it could still be possible that this is the battle where Jamie is in real peril. Viewers will need to tune in to see exactly how it plays out.

Starz has also confirmed that the second half of season seven will be released in 2024, so there may still be more cliffhangers to come.

Outlander season seven continues Fridays on Starz in the USA and on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
