Outlanders Sophie Skelton nearly took down a wall after she hit black ice

Outlander season 7 episode 5 preview

Outlander star Sophie Skelton unveiled a behind-the-scenes near-miss while she drove near the Lallybroch set.

During the second episode of season seven, Brianna Fraser (played by Sophie Skelton) and Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) took to the stones for an important time-traveling moment.

After the birth of her granddaughter Mandy, Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) spotted worrying signs about the newborn’s health and advised the young parents to leave the 1770s behind for modern treatment.

While Claire and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) encountered their own disasters, episode four revealed Brianna and Roger had moved to Scotland and were at a familiar location.

The family was living in the Fraser family home at Lallybroch which was undergoing renovations 200 years in the future.

Speaking on the challenges of filming season seven, Skelton revealed: “I think I was the biggest difficulty to Lallybroch.

“I may have been driving and hit a bit of black ice and nearly took down a wall,” the actress admitted.

“He [Richard Rankin] was videoing as I was trying to do the scene, saying ‘you’re going to f**k up, you’re going to f**k up,’ and videoing me.

“I haven’t driven a manual car since I passed my test. I literally had a few lessons, passed my test, and then didn’t drive for like eight years.

“And I haven’t been in a manual car for a while and these [old cars] have like a double clutch and they’re made for a man!”

In the interview with Digital Spy, her co-star, Richard Rankin continued: “Sophie would stop the car by stalling it.

“I only bring this up because in season two I had to drive this old 1960s car and I had a horrible time driving that, grinding the gears.”

The Roger MacKenzie star added: “It wasn’t horrible, it’s all good fun, but my God, Sophie and Caitriona, the stick I got about that for years.”

While it appears Mandy received her life-saving surgery, it’s yet to be seen if the family will ever return to the past or if they are even safe in the future.

During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Maril Davis teased their permanent stay in the future as she disclosed: “They think it’s a safer time, it’s not so easy to go through the stones. It takes a toll on your body. The stones should not be seen as a revolving door.

“The journey is one that shouldn’t be made very often. Coming through with something that happened to Mandy in her heart, they think it’s better that we stay here. It’s safer.”

Outlander season seven continues Fridays on Starz in the USA and on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
