Steroid addiction confirmed for troubled Coronation Street character

As Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) returns to Coronation Street, it’ll soon become apparent the character’s confidence levels are at an all-time low and will develop an addiction to steroids.

Ryan is currently in recovery after Justin Rutherford (Andrew Still) attacked him with acid. While he has made great progress, the fact that his appearance has changed forever is something Ryan is still struggling to come to terms with.

In a recent episode, after his returning shift at the Bistro ended badly, Ryan was asked out for a drink by a wine supplier.

However, Ryan assumed that Rose was just being kind because she had seen his scars and declined.

We’ve also seen Ryan check out pictures on his social media, with every single one being before his attack, and look at himself in the mirror with a sad and disappointed look on his face.

The last we saw of Ryan, he was getting into Peter’s (Chris Gascoyne) taxi ahead of spending time in Ireland with his mum Michelle (Kym Marsh).

When he eventually returns, we’ll see the beloved character secretly battle an addiction to steroids.

In this long-running story, Ryan will turn to drugs under the impression he can try and get his confidence back, but will anyone discover what he’s doing?

‘The recovery period is so long, if not lifelong. It’s psychotherapy, physiotherapy for many years if not the rest of your life’, Ryan Prescott told us.

‘PTSD, trauma therapy, learning the simple things of dealing with people looking at you in the street. There’s a whole phase of trying to accept that people are going to react differently to you now.

‘Your face is the first thing you look at when you get up in the morning and look in the mirror. It’s your first means of communication, the thing you most readily identify with yourself. When that changes, everything changes.

‘Despite the massive shift that the incident causes, he is determined to not let it define who he is. He is trying to find his way back to the infectious spirit, but it’s a long road.’
