Phil Tufnell red-faced as he ‘forgets’ what show hes on in Ben Shephard blunder

Tipping Point: Phil Tufnell forgets which show he’s on

Former cricketer Phil Tufnell got himself in a slightly awkward situation when speaking to Tipping Point host Ben Shephard.

During the ITV show, Phil tried to win £20,000 for his chosen charity as he went head-to-head with Olympic athlete Colin Jackson and Emmerdale star Lisa Riley.

In the second round, each person was given 45 seconds to answer as many questions as they could with a counter being rewarded for each correct answer.

As Phil managed to get the right, Ben said: “Slow start, but you got there in the end. Three correct answers, well done, like Colin.

“Three counters to put into the machine.”

However, when Phil told the host what slot he’d like to put his counter in, he seemed to forget the show he was on.

Phil said: “One please, Matt.”

Realising his mistake, Phil burst into laughter and walked away from his post as Ben also found the blunder hilarious.

He asked: “Where were you for a minute?”

Phil replied: “I was back on Question of Sport! I nearly called you Sue.”

The whole audience erupted into laughter as Phil was taken back to his time as a team captain on the BBC sports quiz show.

Highlighting the mistake on Twitter, Ben Shephard reshared a clip of the incident as he commented: “When quiz shows collide!! Tuffers, you can call me what you like if it means one of you will win £20k for charity!!”

Phil worked alongside Sue Barker and Matt Dawson on Question of Sport for 13 years before leaving in 2020.

The change came when the BBC wanted to take the show in a new direction.

Despite the small error, Phil managed to get to the third round in Tipping Point after Lisa Riley was sent home first.

Sadly, it wasn’t enough to get him to the final, as Colin managed to gain more money and made it through, while Phil ended up taking home £2,200 for his chosen charity.
