Police give update on MAFS star’s arrest after he was accused of coercive behaviour

Married At First Sight star George Roberts will face no further action after he was arrested on suspicion of coercive behaviour.

The financial adviser, 41, was held in September last year after finding love on the E4 show with former Ms Great Britain, April Banbury, 33.

George was later arrested following accusations of coercive and controlling behaviour by three of his ex girlfriends – something he has always denied.

However, on Monday, the Met Police confirmed they will be taking no further action against the reality star.

A statement said: "A 40-year-old man was arrested by Met officers in Worcestershire on Thursday, 29 September 2022 on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour.

"He was taken to a Worcestershire police station and was initially bailed to return pending further enquiries before been released under investigation.

"All enquiries have now been completed and no further action will be taken. All parties have been informed of this outcome.

"The investigation followed an allegation of controlling and coercive behaviour and harassment reported to the Met on Monday, 26 September 2022."

OK! has contacted George for comment.

All three women had romantic relationships with the star after he got divorced from his first wife.

They all told the authorities that dad-of-four George “love-bombed” them by showering them with affection and gifts before his behaviour turned “coercive and controlling”.

Channel 4 claimed rigorous checks were made on MAFS contestants and “any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously”.

At the time, a spokesperson told OK!: “We work incredibly closely with our production partners to ensure all Married at First Sight UK contributors are subject to rigorous background and psychological checks, including the most detailed police checks a production is able to undertake.

"Any allegations of this nature are taken extremely seriously by Channel 4.”

A spokesperson for George said at the time: “George categorically denies these allegations.

"As a father of daughters he finds these accusations deeply upsetting and does not condone abuse nor behaves in that way.

“These allegations were never brought to his attention, investigated or taken further by the police for good reason as they are simply not true.”

Beauty queen April later claimed that taking part in the show had "ruined her life".

She told The Sun: "The traumas I have from being on Married At First Sight are ruining my life. I was given six therapy sessions and basically told to try and move on."
