Today marks a historical event in which Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest after her death on Thursday, September 8. As thousands of members of the public make their way to London to stand and watch the procession, last-minute changes have been made to the procession which will see Prince George and Princess Charlotte of Wales join their family to walk behind the coffin. Joining GB News hosts Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster, Christopher Biggins expressed his opinion of the young royals being involved.

Touching on their last-minute addition, Eamonn expressed: “George and Charlotte will be part of the procession, which is fine, I am okay, I personally am okay with that.

“I think it is very much something that would be natural to us in Ireland, children grieving or whatever, but there was such criticism about Princes Harry and William at the death of their mother.

“And although this is the great-grandmother of these children, what do you think about them having to march?”

Christopher admitted: “We all know how Harry was affected more than William because he was so young and I think it is different though.

“I think you are right, saying it is the grandmother, it is not their mother, I think this is acceptable and I think it will make something very poignant about this march.

“I think it is extraordinary to see people walk behind a coffin and I remember when Diana died, Philip insisted on walking with the boys, even though he had terrible arthritis, and he really was in pain as he did that walk.

“But he did it to help those boys and it surely did help those boys but it is a tough one, it is going to be tough today for all the royals following that coffin.

“Bringing back so many memories, and the crowds – it is going to be extraordinary.”

Isabel added: “Yeah, it will be extraordinary and really moving to see as you say the little ones George and Charlotte aged nine and seven.”

Interrupting to confirm what Isabel imagines will be happening, Eamonn asked: “You think they will only follow the coffin in the church?”

She explained: “I believe they are just arriving at the Abbey and walking up the nave of the Abbey up to the seating area of the Royal Family rather than the procession.

“I might be wrong but that is my understanding, it has been a late addition to the plans. Yesterday, the Prince and Princess of Wales were just weighing up the pros and cons of whether it was right for George and Charlotte.

“But actually Charlotte wasn’t mentioned so that was a real surprise to hear that she was being included.

“But if they can be looked after and protected in that way it is good, it is an important part of grieving.”

Eamonn concluded: “It is a part of death and a part of life.”

According to the programme, all attendees will stand as the procession of the coffin enters Westminster Abbey, and the Queen’s coffin will be followed by her descendants.

George and Charlotte will follow their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, just in front of their aunt and uncle, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will be first in the procession, to be followed by Princess Anne and her husband Sir Tim Laurence.

Prince Andrew will then walk solo ahead of Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte are not included in the order of service for the committal service for later in the day, which will take place at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel airs Monday-Thursday from 6am on GB News.
