Robbie Williams opens up on being ‘destroyed’ in Netflix documentary

First look at Netflix’s new four-part Robbie Williams documentary

Pop icon Robbie Williams will live his life through a lens as the subject of a new four-part Netflix documentary series which will hit the streamer next year.

In a stylish 36-second trailer released for the upcoming series, Robbie looks pensive as he speaks while the clip juxtaposes between scenes of screaming fans and his own thoughtful moments.

“The thing that would destroy me has also made me successful,” he begins setting the tone.

“Big. More. Touch the fire. Touch the button. Push when it says ‘pull’.

“All of those things have given me my career but there’s also a detrimental side to it too. It just depends which wolf you feed,” he ponders.

The series, which was announced at the Edinburgh TV Festival, teases that it has access to his archive to delve deep into the heart and soul of a pop star.

The 49-year-old former Take That singer turned solo superstar has experienced many well documented highs and lows in his 33-year career.

He has been open about his battles with addiction and just last year he spoke about the darkness of drugs on the Bought the T-Shirt podcast.

“I think drugs are like the equivalent to a Ouija board and you don’t know what you’re opening up,” he said.

“I think when people talk about demons and sorting out their demons, I think they are actually demons.“

In his book, Reveal, he also opened up about his problems with anxiety and identified the drugs he was taking in the past: morphine, Adderall, Vicodin, speed, Seroquel, cocaine and magic mushrooms and a “few more”.

The as yet untitled series promises to touch on all this as well as his breakup with Take That and subsequent reunion with the band.

Although the star’s wife Ayda Field doesn’t appear in the trailer, she is likely to feature heavily in the documentary as Robbie has credited her with saving his life.

“Here I am on the telly getting emotional. She absolutely did,” he said after being asked about how his wife has previously been credited with saving his life by Jonathon Ross in 2020.

The couple, who married in 2010, are doting parents to four children – Teddy, ten, Charlie, eight, Coco, four, and Beau, three.
