Rylan Clark to take break from Radio 2 just hours after Phillip Schofield exit

The One Show: Rylan and Scott Mills give their Eurovision insight

Rylan Clark, 34, has been hosting his own BBC Radio 2 programme every Saturday, from 3pm until 6pm.

During his latest show, he told his audience he had a special announcement to make, saying he was taking some time out.

He said: “This is where I should say ladies I won’t be catching up with you next week.

“Because I am off to do some other bits and bobs so I’m not going to be here for a fair few weeks.

“I just want to say whoever is looking after this seat for a fair few weeks can you please make sure you look after Couch Potatoes.”

The reason for his absence has not been revealed but it came just hours after Phillip Schofield made the decision to quit This Morning after 20 years.

Rylan has previously co-hosted This Morning and is one of the favourites to replace Phillip on the daytime ITV show.

The radio host assured fans he “definitely” won’t be having “more fun” away from the BBC, however he did not reveal what he would be doing with his time off.

Although the exact duration of his break is not known, Rylan did assure fans that it wouldn’t be “long”.

He said: “No not a couple of months, I’ll be back not long…a fair few weeks.”

Rylan is second in the running to replace Phillip on This Morning, just behind regular presenter Alison Hammond.

According to Ladbrokes, he has odds of 3/1 to take over the main presenting role, with Alison at 2/1.

Seventies icon Sally Thomsett took to social media to express how she would love to see Rylan take over.

She said: “Hi darlings, now that @Schofe is leaving @thismorning and @rylan is not doing his Radio 2 show for a while I do hope that he’s joining @hollywills.

“I think they are great together.”

ITV said Holly Willoughby will be presenting the show from June along with the regular faces of This Morning.
