Theo James is set to begin production on an exciting new Netflix project in London this week while his performance on HBO’s second season of The White Lotus continues to impress. Following the success of Guy Ritchie’s 2019 crime film The Gentlemen, Theo is set to lead the cast of a sequel series which has just been given the green light by the streamer.

Netflix has officially finalised negotiations to bring Guy’s hit film to streaming with a new series starring Theo in the lead role.

The streaming giant was reportedly eyeing the project in March of this year after The Gentlemen proved a critical and commercial success.

A sequel series is now officially a go, and is set to begin filming in London next week.

An official synopsis released via Deadline reads: “The series follows James’ character Eddie Halstead, who has inherited his father’s sizeable estate only to discover that it’s sitting on top of a weed empire owned by the legendary Mickey Pearson.”

“Has this straight-up soldier got what it takes to master the dark arts of the British criminal underworld and take control of the entire operation?”

The log line suggests Hollywood A-lister Matthew McConaughey could also be on board to reprise his role as Mickey from the film, though this is unconfirmed.

Guy’s 2019 action-comedy also included stellar names such as Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, Jeremy Strong and Henry Golding, some of whom may also be making appearances.

The writer-director has teamed with Matthew Read to pen the script for the pilot episode, and will also direct the first two episodes of the series.

He will also serve as an executive producer, working with Miramax TV and Moonage Pictures for the UK.

A supporting cast who’ll join The Gentleman alongside Theo has yet to be confirmed.

Guys’ recent film projects also include Wrath of Man and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which is still awaiting a wide release.

He also has an untitled film currently in post-production, and will helm Disney’s Hercules remake after impressing the studio with his live-action update of Aladdin in 2019.

Meanwhile, Theo has been opening up about his latest role as Cameron in The White Lotus, which required him to bare it all in the very first episode.

Although viewers were treated to a full-frontal view when Cameron strips off in the season premiere, the actor admitted the original scene was much more explicit.

“The initial version we shot was way too much,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “So, we did a more subtle version. They toned it [down].

“It’s interesting, [because] at first… we don’t know whether it’s deliberate or [if] it’s accidental. But it reveals itself.”

Theo went on to joke his stripping off has become a habit after similar demands in his latest series, The Time Traveler’s Wife and Sanditon.

He is also best known for embodying the role of Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton in the Divergent series, and was most recently seen on the big screen in Mr. Malcolm’s List.

His White Lotus co-stars also include Aubrey Plaza, F Murray Abraham and Meghann Fahy, many of whom are already picking up awards buzz for the Emmy-winning satire’s follow-up season.

The White Lotus season 2 continues Sundays on HBO in the USA and the following Monday on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
