On Friday, Strictly Come Dancing fans saw the 15 celebrities in this year’s line-up matched with their professional dancers. Although people were given a minor introduction to each star, it seemed Radio DJ Tyler West has already won over judge Shirley Ballas.
During the launch show, each star in this year’s series was told which Strictly professional dancer they’d be with for the duration of the competition.
Along with the returning regulars, viewers also welcomed newbies Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas, Vito Coppola and Carlos Gu to the professional cast.
However, it was Dianne Buswell, who joined the show back in 2017, that was matched with radio DJ Tyler West.
After his partner was revealed, presenter Tess Daly couldn’t help but mention Tyler’s fondness for one particular judge.
Gushing at his confession he cheekily said: “You alright Shirl? Honestly, I am in awe.
“I have so much respect for all of you.”
While Tyler was paying tribute to the head judge viewers watched as Shirley giggled at his kind words.
Spotting the exchange between them both, fans quickly took to Twitter to predict that he’ll be her favourite celebrity in this year’s competition,
Emma Carroll said: “Loooool at Shirley and her scores. Defo knows her favourite… no way was Tyler better than Jayde.”
Grace added: “Shirley has picked her favourite on week 1.” (sic)
“Tyler knows how to get his 10’s early, make Shirley gush…….that’s his 10s banked for the whole season,” commented Twitter user Surviving2022.
With Andrew sarcastically asking: “Gee I wonder who Shirley’s favourite is… “
Leah Mountford said: “So Tyler is flirting his way to his first ten from Shirley”
During the first live show, Tyler and Dianne danced the American Smooth to Harry Styles’ song Falling while attempting to do a lift in their routine.
Once they had performed, Shirley was the only judge who gave them a standing ovation as Tyler thanked her.
Getting his critiques, Shirley said: “Let me tell you, any girl would feel very safe doing lifts and any kind of tricks with you.
“You just put her in the most beautiful space to enter and exit, that was very, very, very beautiful.”
Calling the atmosphere of the routine stunning, the only critique she gave him going forward was to work on his footwork technique.
When it came to scoring, Shirley seemed to have a mishap as she held up a seven but later revealed she got her paddles mixed up.
Although she told Tess she was happy to keep the score, Tyler managed to get an overall total of 22 as Craig Revel Horwood gave four, Motsi Mabuse gave five and Anton Du Beke gave six.
