EastEnders star Sid Owen is returning to EastEnders for a storyline linked to sister Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) and ex lover Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf).

The much loved mechanic will be back for a short term plot later this year, as part of a blockbuster autumn for the show.

Charlie and Kim recently reprised their role, but the exact details of what brings Ricky back into their midst remains to be seen.

Metro.co.uk’s insider shared: ‘With Kim and Charlie back on the Square, it would have been a missed opportunity not to bring Sid back to explore their dynamics.

‘Ricky has two very solid connections in the show, and fans have a lot to look forward to when he re-connects with Janine, Sam and others.

‘The return is temporary, and just one part of a major autumn and winter new boss Chris Clenshaw has in store from EastEnders.

‘He’s come in all guns blazing, and there are big plots and twists ahead in coming months that will have viewers on the edge of their seats.’

Last year, Sid said: ‘I was meant to go back this year and with all that happened, this and that, and with Vic, I’m sort of almost glad – things happen for a reason.

‘If I had of gone back to work, maybe we wouldn’t have been pregnant now.

‘But next year, hopefully if the door’s still open – never say never. It’s a huge part of my life, and people love the character.’

Earlier this year, Sid’s fiancee Victoria Shores gave birth to their first child, daughter Skye.
