The mask has really fallen for Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) as tonight in Emmerdale, he finally decided to show his mum Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) some support.
Throughout the episode, there was a running theme for the characters involved. Everyone had secrets to reveal and be honest with each other – and Cain was very honest indeed.
As he attempted to process the news Faith had stopped her chemo, Cain made his way to the pub and sat down to speak with Chas.
Topic of conversation soon turned to the siblings’ traumatic childhood, that saw Faith walk out on the family and leave Cain and Chas with abusive Shadrach.
Ultimately, Faith and Cain’s relationship today is so fractured because of her decision when her children were younger.
Cain couldn’t – and still hasn’t been able to – forgive Faith and even told Chas he pretended she had died in a car crash because it was easier than waiting for her to return.
As Cain and Chas discussed their past, Faith was visiting Eric (Chris Chittell) and Brenda (Lesley Dunlop), emotionally updating them on her cancer and the fact she had stopped her treatment.
With the night over, Cain left the pub and returned to the farm, where he found Faith enjoying the sunrise.
In moving scenes, it was very clear Cain had accepted the reality of the situation.
He let Faith hold his hand, ready to show her some kindness but, and important to note, Cain admitted he can’t tell his mum he loves her just yet.
Faith told Cain he absolutely doesn’t have to but maybe, just maybe, he might be able to before time runs out.
