Strictly star warned she could face chop as she’s lacking ‘fire in her belly’

Annabel Croft may have had all the fire in the world on the tennis court, but she’s been warned that she’s lacking a bit on the Strictly dancefloor.

The star, 57, is competing in the BBC ballroom contest with pro Johannes Radebe and the duo have turned in decent scores, racking up 30 out of a possible 40 for last weekend’s waltz. But body language expert Darren Stanton reckons Annabel needs to “tighten up” a little and has warned that she could be shown the door soon if she doesn’t start serving up something a little stronger when she’s showing off her moves to Shirley Ballas and co.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, he said: “They don’t seem to have a strong bond or connection. There doesn’t seem to be any fire in Annabel’s belly, she seems to be going through the motions."

Darren said that Annabel – whose husband died in May after fighting cancer – needed to pay attention to what Shirley and fellow judges Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood had to say about her technique on the dancefloor. He said otherwise he could see her getting eliminated from the competition.

Despite his comments, the former tennis ace has become a real favourite with fans of the glitzy competition. Many have said they would like to see her go all the way and lift the coveted Glitterball trophy with Johannes.

“Watching on iPlayer and tears pricking my eyes after Annabel's spellbinding #Strictly performance,” one viewer said after the sports star’s last dance. Someone else said she was "beautiful" as she went through her steps.

“Aww well done again Annabel and Johannes that was such a beautiful and lovely waltz from you both,” said another person. “Annabel oozes elegance,” another viewer agreed.

“I loved most of the dancing tonight but Annabel’s dance made me cry, it was beautiful,” said one fan. Another said how much the star had come on since she first stepped out on the Strictly dancefloor.

Someone else posted: “Annabel created a lovely atmosphere and her frame has really improved as well. She's grown so much in confidence now compared to where she was at W1 where she heavily reliant on Johannes.

"I've been saying for ages this woman is a dark horse!" added the Strictly fan. "Good for you Annabel.”
