Strictlys Gorka Marquez set to leave BBC dancing show after seven years

Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez is reportedly set to leave the BBC show after seven years.

The hunky professional dancer was seen looking devastated as he missed out on the Glitterball trophy last weekend for the third time.

He was partnered with Countryfile star Helen Skelton for the 2022 edition of the popular series and has previously reached the final with Maisie Smith and Alexandra Burke.

A source has told The Sun that Gorka could follow in the footsteps of Kevin Clifton and Oti Mabuse and leave the dancefloor to pursue new projects.

They told the publication: "He looked so devastated last week because he knew the final might be his last chance of taking home the Glitterball, which had eluded him twice before.

"Gorka has become an established figure in the contest and a name in his own right, which could allow him to go on to bigger things.

"There’s no suggestion of any bad feeling between him and the BBC."

Daily Star has reached out to Gorka's representative for a comment.

Helen couldn't speak higher of partner Gorka during the final of Strictly Come Dancing on December 18 and it left his fiancé Gemma Atkinson in tears.

For their final performance of the series the duo performed their Couple's Choice routine which saw them dance to Mein Herr from Cabaret.

First sharing this routine in Week 11, the pair floored the judges with the incredible dance and narrowly missed out on a perfect 40.

But in spectacular fashion, Helen and Gorka brought back the dance – which countless fans have branded the best dance of the series, and received stellar praise from the judges.

As the couple made their way up the stairs, Helen turned to her partner and said: "I get lots of credit but you, my friend, have been in three finals for the reason. You are a credit to this show. You help everybody! Everybody in the final has had tips from you."

The Countryfile presenter added: "You are a credit to your family, to Gemma and Mia and I'm very grateful you have guided me through this adventure."

It was at this point the camera panned to Gorka's loving partner Gemma, whom he's been with since 2018, who could be seen holding back the tears in the audience.

Helen and Gorka closed the Strictly final in the perfect way, scoring four 10s across the leaderboard – their first of the series.

Despite their efforts, it was Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal who were crowned champions of Strictly Come Dancing 2022.
