This weekend the remaining five contestants took to the dance floor to try and earn a spot in the upcoming series finale. With each dancing duo performing two different routines instead of just one, the stakes were higher than ever. Sadly, actor Will Mellor and Nancy Xu failed to impress both the judges and the public at home as they found themselves being the latest duo to exit the show.

Despite remaining at the top end of the leaderboard throughout the competition, this weekend Will Mellor found himself right at the bottom with a combined score of 70.

After being given a combined total of 32 and 38 for his Paso Doble and couples choice, they failed to impress judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood.

On Monday night, they became the 11th couple to leave the competition after finding themselves in the dance-off with former X Factor star Fleur East.

Both being given the option to pick their favourite routine out of the two they danced on Sunday, Will opted for their Couples’ Choice to a 90s Manchester-inspired medley with Fleur picking her Charleston.

After each pair had finished their performances, it was time for the judges to decide who they wanted to see competing in the final,

With Craig and Motsi opting to save Fleur and her professional partner Vito and Anton choosing Will, it came down to head judge Shirley.

Before giving her decision, she told both Will and Fleur: “Both couples were outstanding and not only today but through the series.

“I have loved both of them, this is by far, even for me Craig, the most difficult decision I feel I have had to make. Based on micro details, I have decided to save Fleur and Vito.”

When it was revealed that Will and Nancy were leaving the competition, the soap star confessed he was proud of how far he’s come.

Speaking to Tess Daly he said: “I have to thank you all for giving me this chance to put a smile on my mum’s face, she deserves it.

“I’ll take whatever I have learnt from this show forward in whatever I do because it shows you can achieve more than you think.”

After thanking those who have supported him on his journey, Nancy echoed her partner’s gratefulness.
