The Chase viewers were distracted by an EastEnders lookalike player on Thursday’s episode but were soon left stunned by his major question blunder.

Player Alex, a 36-year-old fraud prevention manager from Stoke-on-Trent, caught fans attention on the ITV gameshow seconds in after he appeared to bear a striking resemblance to a major EastEnders star – Stuart Highway.

The Character, who departed the soap earlier this year, sported a similar bald head, with many even saying he looked like fellow bald character Phil Mitchell.

“Alex played Stuart Highway in #EastEnders,” commented one fan. The comment was flooded with like as another chimed in: “Now we know what Stuart highway has been upto since leaving EastEnders.”

A third compared him to Phil Mitchell – saying: “Anyone getting Phil Mitchell vibes from Alex?”

But during hes head to head with host Bradley Walsh he was asked a question that asked for the name of a country in the UK – and the self-confessed quiz guru answered: “London”.

Fans were stunned at the gaffe – calling it “awkward.”

"London, that well known COUNTRY of the UK #TheChase," blasted one fan.

"That country London is he a yank? awkward!" penned a second.

Things took a turn for the worse when Alex was soon sent home by chaser, Mark Labbett.

"Alex! You fu**ed it all up! And you call yourself a quizzer!" blasted one fan.

"Did Alex say he was in a quiz league?" asked another, as a third added: "Alex may get banned from his quiz league after this!"

Players Richard and Shihad were the only two players left standing in the final Chase, having bagged a whopping £80k cash prize thanks to Richard taking the high offer during his head to head with the chase, aka "The Beast".

"Not quite sure how Mark got away with that in the end, but that's why he's generally seen as the top Chaser …" said one fan – as many said they were "gutted for the pair after they lost with just 11 seconds left on the clock.

The pair would have likely won had they have answered a pushback question correctly. A pushback question is offered when the chaser gets his answer wrong, allowing the players an opportunity to steal his point and gain a higher lead.
