The Chase star Anne Hegerty has revealed she still lives in a Housing Association flat despite her rise to fame after first appearing on the hit show 13 years ago.

Self-proclaimed "Governess", Anne has made a fortune from her appearances on the popular ITV programme along with other avenues of TV work, most notably her I'm A Celebrity stint in 2018.

But the 64-year old, who first appeared on screens as far back as 1988 as a contestant on BBC's Mastermind, doesn't appear to be interested in a life of glitz and glamour.

Speaking on the How To Be 60 with Kaye Adams and Karen MacKenzie podcast, Anne explained that her cash is in stashed away.

"I like pondering that it's sitting in the bank. I buy clothes, stupid amounts of clothes," she said.

Anne went on to add that as a new buyer today she would no longer qualify for the Housing Association scheme as her salary is too high.

Before she made her money, however, she was able to apply for shared ownership, allowing her to own part of her property whilst paying rent on the other portion.

"I live in a Housing Association flat. I own half of it and rent the other half," she added.

As part of the scheme, buyers can purchase between 10% and 75% of their property, with the Association owning the remainder.

Anne also admitted on the pod that she once found herself in trouble with the law after her then-undiagnosed autism got the better of her, which resulted in bailiffs banging at her door.

"I was worrying so much about the problem about there not being money, and I was spending more time worrying than I was actually getting on with the work," she said.

In order to keep up with payments the star has now appointed an accountant to handle her finances.
