The Great British Bake Off 2023 applications are open – and you can take part

Former presenter Mel Giedroyc may have called it one of the most “boring” shows she had ever worked on, but British viewers were quick to take to The Great British Bake Off.

The show, which sees amateur bakers from across the country compete in a marquee kitchen to be crowned championed, is one of the most popular programmes on TV.

It even sparked an industry bidding war, with its success leading to Channel 4 paying mega-bucks to take it off the BBC.

Previous Bake Off winners have gone on to write cookbooks, host their own baking television shows, open their own restaurants — and one even had the honour of baking the late Queen’s 90th birthday cake in 2016.

The contestants are ordinary joes wanting to test their abilities, and the show is once again open to those who know their soufflés from their madeira cakes.

The third episode, set to air on Tuesday September 27, will see the bakers tackle the tricky art of bread making.
