AceShowbiz -“The Masked Singer” honored “Sesame Street” in the Wednesday, March 15 episode. In the new outing of the hit FOX show, Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, The Count and Abby Cadabby brought the fun in the special episode that saw Grammy Award-winning star Jennifer Nettles joining the panelist.
Kicking off the episode, the “Sesame Street” characters took the stage with a cute performance. The first contestant to perform that night was last week’s winner Squirrel. In her clue package, she revealed, “I’m working hard to make sure no one’s gonna take this title from me, especially not on ‘Sesame Street Night.’ I’m dedicating my performance to The Count, because my kid is his number one fan. That guy’s got some style.”
Her visual clues, meanwhile, included a yellow smiley-faced pin, Swedish meatballs, a gorilla, a castle and a wedding dress. She sang “Just the Two of Us” by Grover Washington Jr and Bill Withers that night. Ken Jeong guessed Katherine Heigl, Nicole Scherzinger mentioned Kate Hudson, Jenny thought she could be Malin Akerman, while Jennifer threw Anne Hathaway into the mix.
Following it up was Fairy, who made her debut in the episode. “Making my debut on ‘Sesame Street Night’ makes me feel right at home because I grew up in these streets. Some might say I’m a bit of a nepo fairy,” she revealed in her clue package. As for her visual clues, they included a feather duster, a Metropolitan Police Officer badge with badge number 966, a black panther, photos of Sean Penn, Rob Lowe and Emilio Estevez, a basketball and a rubber ducky on a Christmas tree.
Fairy opted to sing “You’re No Good” by Linda Ronstadt. For a clue, Cookie Monster pulled out a plate that says “Endless Love”, with Fairy adding, “This clue should be music to your ears. A timeless classic that means so much more to me than just romance.” Jenny guessed Tracee Ellis Ross, Ken said she might be Angelina Jolie with Robin Thicke mentioning Rashida Jones.
Jackalope was the final contestant performing that night. “While I’m known to have a lot of influence, you’d be surprised that I wasn’t very social. Talking as a kid wasn’t my jam, so growing up I expressed myself through music and dance,” she said in her clue package. Her visual clues included vines, a smart phone, a red heart necklace with a “G” on it, and a picture of Ghostface from “Scream“.
For her debut, Jackalope performed “Whenever, Wherever” by Shakira. Jackalope revealed she once partied with Nicole, while The Count pulled out a sign that says “30 under 30.” Nicole thought Jackalope was Lele Pons, Jennifer guessed Camila Cabello, and Jenny said Jenna Ortega.
Host Nick Cannon announced that Squirrel had the least amount of votes, meaning that she got to be unmasked. Prior to that, the panel submitted their final guesses that included Heather Graham (Robin), Katherine Heigl (Ken), Kate Hudson (Nicole), Anne Hathaway (Jennifer) and Malin Akerman (Jenny). The Squirrel was revealed to be Malin Akerman and Jenny guessed it correctly.
It’s time for a Battle Royale between Fairy and Jackalope who performed their own spin on “On Top of the World” by Imagine Dragons. Fairy was named the winner and before Jackalope revealed her identity, the panelists made their final guesses.
Nicole and Robin were convinced that Jackalope was Lele Pons, Jenny still went with Jenna Ortega, Ken guessed Selena Gomez and Jennifer stayed with her first guesst which was Camila Cabello. Nicole and Robin were right because Jackalope was Lele Pons!
