The real reason Gino DAcampo quit Road Trip series with Gordon Ramsay and Fred

Gordon, Gino and Fred Road Trip: The boys get lost in Naples

Gordon, Gino and Fred: Viva Espana! began last night on ITV and is the final offering from the three culinary stars following Gino D’Acampo’s shock decision to step back from their “road trip” style shows.

This offering was filmed before Gino made the shock announcement that he had decided to quit the popular show in an Instagram video posted to his 1.6 million followers.

Citing filming dates as one of the reasons he said: “We can’t get the dates together and sometimes when we do get the dates together sometimes, they get changed and it causes a lot of problems for me.”

However co-star Fred Sirieix later refuted this claim in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk. “No, it’s not true that Gino couldn’t make the dates work – that they do not work. It’s not, ‘couldn’t make the dates work’,” he said.

“I know what he said. I mean he said what he said, but yeah, we couldn’t make it anymore. It wasn’t possible to go on tour so it had to go. It was a shame,” he conceded. “It was a good show. But nothing lasts. So c’est la vie.”

Gino had emphasised that his reasons for leaving the show had nothing to do with his co-stars saying that their “friendship is very strong,” which definitely appears to be the case for him and Fred.

They are set to front a new series together, which sees them attempt to travel as sustainably as possible as they visit Austria after the capital city, Vienna, was ranked as the greenest city in the world in 2020.

“We’re thrilled to be upcycled by ITV for another action-packed adventure and can’t wait to cook up some fantastic sustainable dishes whilst hopefully stirring up debate around these important issues,” they said in a statement.

For his part Gordon Ramsay opened up about working with Gino and Fred on the show last April.

Speaking to on the Big Fish podcast with host, former Made In Chelsea star Spencer Matthews he joked that both men were ‘lazy’ on the set.

“They are great, they are wonderful, fantastic, incredible pain in the a**es. They’re so f***ing lazy, they make me look good,” he exclaimed.

“An hour in Gino wants an espresso, or he wants his eyebrows plucked, ninety minutes in, Fred’s missing his croissant and his eyeliner.

“So we do get on, but three or four days in it’s like, ‘Move over, I want more room in the bed’, or, ‘Can we have a break?’ They don’t work hard.”
