With all the time spent in our increasingly claustrophobic rented flats this year, it’s no wonder we’ve developed a real habit for browsing our dream properties.
We know that within the UK, we’ve been staring at houses with extra space and access to nature.
But with travel plans grounded, we’ve also experienced plenty of wanderlust, too.
Rightmove has analysed data to find the five overseas homes that Brits have been viewing on the site this year.
As you’d expect, they’re all pretty glorious, with plenty of room and grand interiors.
Rightmove’s Director of Property Data Tim Bannister said: ‘As many people will appreciate, it’s been an unusual 12 months for the overseas market as people have been restricted from flying abroad for much of the year.
‘However, we’ve still seen enormous interest in overseas property this year, and in fact there’s been an 18% annual increase in the number of users on our overseas site in 2020.
‘So there definitely remains a huge appetite among the British public to view homes overseas. From a magnificent New York apartment to a palatial Greek mansion, these five properties are pretty special.’
Let’s take a look, shall we?
1. Rancho Latigo equestrian ranch, California, $39,995,000
This Golden State equestrian ranch sits in 4,600 acres of rolling hills.
There’s a helipad and plenty of grogeous horse riding trails, plus a pool, wine cellar, and old-school interiors.
2. Five-bedroom detached house, Dodecanese Islands, Greece, €2,500,000
Okay, so this one’s pretty dreamy.
Sitting on the outskirts of Rhodes, the hilltp Greek mansion offers beautiful sea views.
Inside is all marble flooring, hammocks, and a hot tub.
3. Six-bedroom apartment, New York, $25,000,000
It turns out we’re still up for city living, too… as long as it’s in a massive, super fancy apartment.
This six-bedroom flat is on the 74th floor, meaning you’d get great views of Central Park.
Interiors-wise, the property has two separate bedroom wings, each with a main suite and a white marble bathroom, and open-plan living spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows.
This is above The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, so residents have access to all the hotel’s five-star amenities, including a 24-hour concierge, 75 ft swimming pool, and the exclusive spa.
4. 12-bedroom villa, Mallorca, €35,000,000
Sun, sea, and sand… plus an infinity pool, of course.
This estate pairs all the luxury features you’d expect from a villa previously owned by Claudia Schiffer with incredible sea views from its location high in the hills of Camp de Mar.
The property is made up of three individual villas, with a total of 12 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
Along with that pool we mentioned, there are also fitness and spa areas, plus lush gardens with olive and fruit trees.
5. Four-bedroom detached house, Nova Scotia, Canada, $2,856,420
If you dream of sleek design and an isolated location, here’s your perfect place.
The waterfront home was once a Second World War observation tower, but is now a modern home nestled between coastlines and granite cliffs.
There’s an ocean-view infinity pool, a private roof deck with a hot tub, and a wood-burning fireplace.
