This Morning fans concerned for Dermot OLeary as he explains show absence

Fans of This Morning have expressed their concern for Dermot O'Leary after he made his return to the ITV show earlier today.

Dermot returned to the sofa on Thursday (December 14) after taking a day off from the show. For Thursday's edition of the show, he was joined by regular fashion expert and part-time cook Lisa Snowden.

As the cameras went live, Dermot and Lisa were not in the usual studio of the show. Instead, the pair were seen in the programme's dedicated call centre as they launched the show's winter health SOS clinic, determined to help people tackle winter bugs ahead of the big day.

"You may have noticed that our studio has changed a bit," Lisa explained as the pair welcomed viewers to the programme. "That's because today we are hosting our winter health SOS clinic."

Dermot, 50, was quick to chime in on the usefulness of the segment, but admitted it would have been better for him to have the advice earlier. "Which is a little bit late for me, because I needed [the clinic] yesterday!" he joked.

Lisa joined in on the fun, adding that she also needed the help from the clinic as she had gone through a similar illness earlier in the week. "I needed it on Monday," Lisa remarked as Dermot continued: "I'm living proof that the bug doesn't last too long – at least mine anyway."

The pair discussed the need for help for those struggling with winter illnesses as they announced the NHS was bring in emergency measures to combat the rising number of people going to the service to receive treatment. It came amid figures that sixty percent of people watching This Morning were coming down with the bug.

To help combat the struggle, bosses at ITV opened a phone-in for those who were battling the numerous illnesses going around. Resident doctors Dr Samir and Dr Sara were looking forward to taking viewers' calls about how to fight off the illnesses, as they offered comfort to the recently recovered hosts.

As they closed off the introduction, Dermot was quick to give his thanks to the medical duo. "I feel reassured already," he said before continuing: "Wish you were here two days ago!"

But fans watching the show expressed their concern for Dermot's appearance on the show following his recent illness. Many viewers took to social media to ask whether Dermot should have been back in the presenting seat at all after being sick.

One viewer watching the show at home wrote: "If Dermot was that sick yesterday, should he be there today?" A second fan of the programme added: "Surely he shouldn't be at work today if he was ill yesterday!"

This Morning airs every weekday at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
