This Morning favourite asked to go on I’m A Celeb this week – but refuses

One This Morning favourite has revealed he was asked to join the star-studded cast of this year’s series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! as a last-minute addition, but confessed he would never say yes.

The new series of the hugely popular reality show fronted by Geordie double act Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly is due to return to our screens this autumn. The gruelling show will see the latest group of celebrities settle into the Australian jungle where they will take on a series of daring challenges for three weeks.

But it appears as though the dynamic duo are on the hunt for one final contestant to join the famous line-up. During Friday’s (October 21) visit to the ITV studios, Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond welcomed viewers back to the signature This Morning sofa.

Joining them on the show was Gyles Brandreth who admitted on the show that he had been asked several times to join the show over the years – including this year. But the broadcaster warned viewers that they won’t be seeing him heading Down Under any time soon.

The TV presenter confessed he finds the entire show absolutely terrifying and is even scared to cross the rope bridge leading into camp. TV host Dermot O’Leary teased the return of the new series as he asked his co-stars if they would ever go on the show.

He asked: “Would you ever do it Gyles?” to which the star admitted: “I was asked again this year” as the dad-of-one shared his excitement at the possibility of his pal going on the show. Alison encouraged: “Why don’t you do it Gyles?” as Sonia Sodha added: “I’d love to see you in it!”

Offering some inside gossip on the series, the former MP explained: “What is interesting is that they obviously had a space at the last minute because I was asked again only this week, so maybe someone dropped out and they were desperate.”

The newest Great British Bake Off presenter pushed Gyles to say yes to the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, telling him: “It would never be boring.” But Gyles explained why he would never agree to go on the show, admitting: “I’d be terrified. They drop you in by air and you walk along that little bridge… not for me.”

Loyal fans of the daytime show will know Gyles is a regular guest on the show and is also a popular Gogglebox star as a frequent guest on the celebrity edition of the Channel 4 commentary show. Paris Fury also revealed how she had been asked to sign up to the winter reality show just days after she gave birth to her seventh child.

She told Lorraine: “I actually got a call recently just a couple of days ago and they said, ‘I know she’s just had a baby’ – and by the way, the baby was about five days old. They said, ‘But would she consider coming to the jungle in the next few weeks?’

“I was like, ‘No, no, no’,” she insisted. Last year’s series, which controversially included the former health secretary Matt Hancock, was won by England Lioness Jill Scott. Elsewhere, the show’s very first winner Tony Blackburn appeared on Good Morning Britain last Friday (October 13) where he shared his horrific health woes.

The TV presenter recalled a terrifying experience when he’d been rushed to hospital with blood poisoning and pneumonia earlier this year.
