This Morning pulled from air in schedule shake-up as Alison Hammond speaks out

This Morning viewers are being split after ITV bosses decided to pull the show later this week.

Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary have taken over hosting duties from Holly Willoughby and Craig Doyle the show enters the summer holidays.

But the presenting duo, who have been leading the show every Friday since 2021, won't be on air on Thursday, as ITV opted to cover the FIFA Women's World Cup instead.

In a statement, the broadcaster said: "As the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off this week, there will be some slight changes to our usual schedule. Here’s all the details you need for this week!"

As a result, This Morning will be taken off air as hosts Australia takes on the Republic of Ireland in Sydney.

Fans have since been divided on whether the show should return afterwards, following a series of scandals to hit the programme.

One viewer celebrated the show's one-day cancellation, saying: "Excellent! I'll be watching on Thursday then".

Another offered a more sympathetic view, writing: "Love Alison and Dermot. They are so happy just what we want on tv in these uncertain times."

Alison spoke out before the schedule change as she penned: "See you tomorrow for another fun week at 10 @thismorning." Alison added a red love heart emoji and tagged in her co-stars such as Gyles Brandeth, Clodagh McKenna and Phil Vickery.

It comes in the wake of several fiascos that have hit the show in recent months.

Former host Philip Schofield officially left the show after it emerged that he had engaged in an affair with a runner on the show thirty years younger than him.

Schofield, 61, admitted to the affair, which took place whilst he was married to his ex-wife Stephanie Lowe. The pair also have two daughters aged 27 and 30.

After the relationship went public, Schofield quit the show, as ITV bosses cancelled his contract amid allegations that the couple began the relationship when the runner was under 18.

Speaking in the aftermath of the incident, Schofield said that the affair was "unwise but not illegal".

Willoughby later returned to the show following the incident, but the debacle caused many fans to tune out.

Ratings have not recovered since the fiasco, with one person commenting: "I stopped watching with what happened and Holly still presenting and I be I won’t be watching next week either because I never watched Fridays with Alison".
