FANS of Top Gear were left complaining as the show was back on screens last night.

The BBC One motoring programme returned for another outing with Paddy McGuiness back alongside Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris for the brand new series.

The new series got underway as the trio found themselves in Thailand going across the country in a variety of pick-up trucks.

The lads revealed Thailand was obsessed with pick-ups and they wanted to discover for themselves just why everyone loved such vehicles. 

However, the opener did not impress some viewers with many feeling the show to be outdated and 're-hashing' old formulas and stories.

Taking to Twitter, one disgruntled fan fumed: "How does #TopGear get away with doing the same crap everytime.? Re-hashing things that have been done before. Awful."

A second shared: "Paddy constantly shouting “go on son” and Flintoff constantly saying “come on the *insert whatever vehicle he’s driving” are making #TopGear very nearly unwatchable. They can’t drive & know very little about cars. Only Chris is worth listening to."

Another fan said of the 'boring' show: "This programme needs complete refresh or ditching completely- boring format that seen before #TopGear."

A fourth raged: "Isn't it about time the BBC retired Top Gear? Its the same old silly challenges Clarkson, May and Hammond did and they did them a lot better."

As another also echoed for Jeremy Clarkson's return, saying: "Bring back Clarkson. [What] a load of claptrap."

The viewer backlash comes after Paddy McGuiness was left admitting he needed a 'little cry' following a high intensity challenge in the opening episode.

In the episode, the trio found themselves experiencing 'drifting', a technique whereby a driver intentionally over steers but whilst maintaining control in order to create the effect of gliding around a sharp corner with little to no movement.

The group nominated Paddy to take part in the drifting experiment as he got into the vehicle with the driver.

The presenter searched around for a seat belt only to realise the car did not have one.

As he clumsily crashed his head onto a bar inside the car, Paddy said in a voiceover: "No (seat) belt, lots of exposed metal – kids, do not try this at home!"

As the drift came to an end, a rattled Paddy got out of the car with a multitude of visible sweat patches all across his shirt.

The star placed his head on the car as Freddie and Chris cheered him on before he walked off saying: "I’m just going to find a little spot to lie down and have a little cry. Wowzers."
