Twisted ITV drama returning to screens this month after rave reviews | The Sun

A TWISTED ITV drama is set to return to screens in a matter of weeks, and viewers can look forward to a new storylines being even grittier than before.

Crime is a show based on a book by Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh, and the hotly anticipated second season is coming out on ITV on Thursday, September 21.



All episodes of the new season will be available to stream at once when it is released.

Fans of the first series will be happy to hear Dougray Scott is returning to the screen as troubled Detective Ray Lennox, and plenty of new cases await him in the Edinburgh Serious Crimes unit.

DI Ray has gone through some personal developments since the fan favourite character first came to life in the Scots crime show, and is now sober and single.

The new season is set to kick off with the detective pairing up with police partner DI Amanda Drummond to investigate a grizzly attack at a posh hotel.

A VIP guest was left castrated in the horrible incident, and viewers will be hooked by watching Ray come up against bureaucracy while hunting for the truth behind what happened.

Crime is also welcoming some new faces to the show, including It’s A Sin star Sarah McCardie and Doctor Who favourite John Simm.

Irvine Welsh took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his excitement for the upcoming season.

He wrote: "Series two is shaping up to much better than series one which was f***ing brilliant."

The first season was loved by fans, and some have also posted on social media welcoming the return of the crime drama.

One viewer said: "Dougray Scott is at his best as DI Ray Lennox in this gritty dark thriller set in Edinburgh.

"Well written, directed & superbly acted by a strong cast who did a great job bringing Welsh's book to life. Looking forward to Series 2."

Another added: "Crime by Irvine Welsh is superb! Taut, terrifying and treacherous."
