The radio presenter performed a Salsa and received a respectable score of 35, but the judges weren’t completely impressed with the routine. Later, fans were quick to complain when Craig Revel Horwood brought up Tyler’s lack of hip movement while commenting on Will Mellor’s dance. When Rylan Clarke acknowledged the remarks on Monday night, Tyler deemed them “unnecessary”.
Sadly, Tyler and Dianne ended up dancing their final dance last week after they were eliminated from the competition.
The two were placed in the dreaded dance-off alongside Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, but the judges decided to save the latter couple.
Before the results had come in, Craig made a sly remark about Tyler’s performance.
Applauding Will Mellor’s dance with Nancy Xu, he labelled it “hiptastic”.
He stated: “There was so much hip content darling. I think you need to go backstage and teach Tyler a thing or two about that. Just saying, darling!”
As Rylan addressed the swipe on It Takes Two, he explained: “There’s one thing you can definitely take away from Saturday – something for the CV, Shirley called him Mr Rhythm!
“Literally, CV, I want that now please!” Before adding: “How hard had you been working on those hips because they were mesmerising, Ty.”
“Thanks!” Tyler replied. “It was a lot of practice. And I feel like that’s it when you go in and we squeezed every hour out of our weeks.”
“Every hour,” Dianne emphasised as Tyler continued: “I carried on working, I haven’t said no to a job whilst I’ve been on the show
and I mean Dy’s put up with my hectic schedule.
“She’s put up with all my commitments and we’ve managed to squeeze it out and do a performance like that honestly, my heart was smiling throughout.”
“Do you know what, we were too,” Rylan stated. “But someone who was smiling but still had stuff to say…
“After Will’s dance, Craig threw a bit of shade your way! What did you make about the comment about your hips?”
“I mean, I don’t know how necessary it was,” Tyler hesitated.
“Did you grab him at the after party going, ‘I’ll show you my hips!?'” Rylan joked.
Tyler added diplomatically: “But you know what, all the judges, I mean they make their comments, and you know I said it in my last speech – I’m so grateful to be able to dance in front of them and have their commentary each week and work with them on the show.
“They’re absolutely all amazing in their own right and it’s part of it, you know.
“And you take it on board, you grow with it and you try and work harder and I feel like we left it all there on that dancefloor.”
After being eliminated from the competition on Sunday night, Tyler paid a sweet tribute to Dianne.
He commented: “This girl here has changed my life for sure. To think I was some shy kid who never used to talk to anyone, to dance in front of millions, I can’t put it into words.
“It’s my mum’s favourite show, I bought her to Blackpool, my nan bless her was always watching over me on this journey.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
