Tyson Fury shut down Netflix demand as he explains reason behind series

At Home With The Furys teased in Netflix trailer

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk and other press, Tyson Fury and his wife Paris discussed why they didn’t want their new Netflix series to be “scripted”.

At Home with the Furys, which will hit screens on August 16, will follow the heavyweight boxing champion and his family as they go about their day-to-day lives.

However, while “nothing was off limits” for the cameras, Tyson did shut down Netflix bosses when they asked him to film a scene more than once.

When asked whether any of the reality series is scripted, Paris simply replied: “No, because Tyson wouldn’t do scripted at all.

“It wasn’t that they wanted to script anything because we agreed this isn’t fake.

“I don’t want to diss anybody else’s show but shows that you see on television that you know is set up and you know that is false and it can’t possibly be real.

“So we weren’t going down that, this was a reality show or whatever you want to call it…[but] a documentary of our life.

“But there are times when they missed something and they’d say, ‘Could you just say that again?'”

Tyson weighed in: “No because that was the one-line wonder. I can’t repeat something off the cuff.”

Paris added: “So if they didn’t get it, they missed it and there wasn’t much they missed.

“There was the odd time they’d say ‘Can you just repeat that’ and he’d say, ‘No, that’s not happening’. So I ended up just following suit.

“You know what, if he ain’t going to join in I’m not gonna join in so you know, get what you can.”

Tyson and Paris are childhood sweethearts and they share six children together – with another on the way.

At Home with the Furys will see Tyson and Paris’ relationship put to the test as they navigate life after the boxer’s retirement while raising their children.

Paris explained following her husband’s retirement, Tyson needed something to focus on which is how the Netflix show came about.

She stated: “It was kind of one of those things that when he started retirement, I knew it would never work unless he filled it with something else and if he didn’t find another job that he wanted to put his time into.”

“So then he was just sort of lingering around,” Paris said before turning to Tyson. “Your mental health was different because you didn’t have a purpose and for a young person to have no focus or purpose in life…

“I mean, yes, of course, we’ve got each other, we’ve got the children and family, but on a day-to-day basis, I’ve got 1,000,001 jobs to do, like I get up in the morning and Tyson was just sort of lingering around.”

At Home with the Furys is available to watch on Netflix from August 16.
