Weakest Link contestant claims I cheated after making final of BBC quiz show

Sophie Michell discusses experience on The Weakest Link

Mike Stratton claimed he “cheated” on BBC’s The Weakest Link in 2004 when he made it to the final round of the quiz show.

He managed to bag tens of thousands of pounds in cash and prizes by getting onto several different game shows.

In his new book, How to Get on Game Shows and Win £1000s, Mike claimed he made it to the final on The Weakest Link by persuading players not to vote him off.

He described how he followed contestants to the studio’s toilets in order to make pacts that they wouldn’t evict each other.

He explained how he reeled seven out of the nine participants into his scheme without any realising they’d all agreed.

According to The Telegraph, he wrote: “I cheated on The Weakest Link. Every time somebody left the room, I went with them.

“I’d say something like, ‘I tell you what, they’re going to vote me and you off straight away, aren’t they?’

“So I said, ‘I won’t vote for you and you won’t vote for me, yeah?’ And I did that all day.

“By the time it came to film the show, there were only two people who I hadn’t done it to.

“My name never got mentioned until there were three of us left: me, a girl and this really clever guy.

“And I looked at the girl and I said, ‘Me and you in the final?’ And she said, ‘Yep,’ and we voted this guy off.”

He continued: “You’re allowed to collude with other people, you see, there’s nothing against it in the rules.

“It’s just I did it with everybody, so everybody was annoyed with me.”

Express.co.uk has contacted the BBC for a comment over the claims.

Other shows Mike participated in include National Lottery: In It To Win It, Fear Factor, Bullseye, Who Wants to be a Millionare, Are You Smarter Than a Ten-Year-Old and more.
