Who is Amanda Abbington's fiance Jonathan Goodwin? | The Sun

JONATHAN Goodwin shot to fame as a daredevil stuntman.

However, in 2021 his life changed forever after a stunt he was performing went horribly wrong.

Who is Jonathan Goodwin?

Jonathan Goodwin is a Welsh stunt performer, escape artist, and daredevil.

He gained widespread fame after appearing on America's Got Talent.

His dangerous stunts took him to the semi-finals, where he was then eliminated.

Jonathan was also a finalist on Britain's Got Talent.

Goodwin started his craft when he was seven-years-old, after being inspired by a book on the original escape artist, Harry Houdini.

In October 2021, he got engaged to Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington.

Goodwin has a young daughter named Milligan from a previous relationship.

What happened to him?

Goodwin decided to return to America's Got Talent in 2021, this time as a contestant in the new spin-off series America's Got Talent: Extreme.

The show was described on the NBC website as "the most outrageous, unique and jaw-dropping acts of enormous scale and magnitude that simply cannot be confined to a theatre stage".

However, production was shut down in October 2021 due to a terrifying accident involving one of Goodwin's stunts.

During rehearsal, Goodwin was suspended 70 feet in the air, hanging from a rope, as two cars swung on each side of him.

He appeared to try and jump up the rope before the cars collided, but the rope snapped and he was sandwiched between the two vehicles.

An explosion immediately occurred upon impact, leaving the performer brutally injured, with multiple broken bones and burns across his body.

The stunt artist had to be airlifted to a local hospital.

How is Goodwin doing now?

On February 20, 2022, Goodwin shared a post to his Instagram account announcing his release from the hospital and continued good spirits.

In the post featuring his partner Amanda Abbington, he wrote: "Four months later… finally out of hospital.

"My birthday today… can’t think of a better way to spend it than with my love."

However, in May 2022, he revealed he had been left paralysed and confined to a wheelchair.

After suffering life-altering injuries, Jonathan retired as a stunt performer and instead retrained as a hypnotherapist, helping others overcome issues such as anxiety and insomnia.

He told The Sun: “It'd be very easy for me to look at my situation and be like, ‘Woe is me, I'm so unlucky, I've had all of these terrible things happen to me.

"Or I could look at the same situation and be like, ‘Oh my God, I'm so lucky, I got a second chance, I can still cuddle my daughter, kiss my fiancé, sip a margarita and watch the sunset'. That second chance at life is something that I am incredibly grateful for every day.

"I’m grateful for the opportunity to do all the new things that I'm doing. I retrained as a hypnotherapist and spend my days helping people.

"There are so many people at the minute that are dealing with difficult psychological challenges, hypnotherapy genuinely helps with unwanted feelings, emotions, and behaviours.
