AT least seven people were killed, including a police officer with 15 years on the force, and over 50 others were injured in horrific shootings over the weekend.

Deputy Matthew Yates of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office was fatally shot on Sunday while responding to a shooting at a trailer park.


Sheriff Deborah Burchett said the fatal incident occurred at the Harmony Estates Mobile Home Park in Ohio around 11.30 in the morning.

At an emotional press conference, Burchett stated that Yates had responded to a 911 call of a woman breaking into a residence.

Yates was shot after deputies arrived at the scene and were met with gunfire.

He was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton and later died from his injuries.

“Deputy Matt Yates ended his watch yesterday taking dangerous action in the face of evil, going to the rescue of someone else,” tweeted Attorney General Dave Yost. 

“My heart breaks for his father, who he followed into law enforcement, for his family, and for Sheriff Deb Burchett and the Clark County Sheriff’s office—which lost its second deputy in 12 years by the gun of a criminal.”

According to The Dayton Daily News, another deputy injured his leg while avoiding gunfire, but was not shot.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is looking into the shooting at the trailer park.

The bloody weekend also led to the deaths of four people in Chicago.

According to FOX 32, since Friday night, about 55 people have been injured throughout the city including an incident on July 23 after a person in a vehicle drove past a church hosting a funeral and shot three people.

Police told the outlet that three victims were shot outside the Universal Community Missionary Church and were between the ages of 20 and 37 years old.

A 20-year-old male was shot in the abdomen, shoulder and leg while the 37-year-old male was shot in the upper right thigh.

The third victim, a 25-year-old male was shot in the upper right side of his back.

All three were taken to a local hospital in good condition.

Days later, on Sunday, a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot on the South Side after being struck in the abdomen.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said that a suspect hasn’t been arrested as of yet.

Another incident on the South Side, also on Sunday, occurred when a man, 37, attempted to stop a fight between another male and a 25-year-old female.

The 37-year-old was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.

The woman was shot in the armpit and is in stable condition.

The incident was domestic related, said police.

Early Sunday morning, a group of men was changing a tire on the street when another male driving a dark SUV exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots before fleeing.

A 30-year-old man was shot in the face and pronounced dead at the scene while two others were transported to a hospital in critical condition. 

Police said no suspects are in custody. 

DEADLY PARK SHOOTING

The Los Angeles Police Department stated that two people were killed and five others were injured at a shooting at Peck Park in San Pedro.

Officers received a 911 call around 3.45pm and found multiple victims at the park when they arrived at the scene.

All were taken to local hospitals, where two victims were later pronounced dead, said police.

A “number of firearms” were located at the scene, said the LAPD, who did not specify how many suspects are believed to be involved.

The department also did not clarify if the shooting was believed to be gang-related.
