Boots to close 300 health and beauty stores – see if your local branch is listed

High street health and beauty chain store Boots has started closing down some of the 300 shops it announced earlier this year.

With the cost of living crisis being blamed, the company confirmed the closures are starting imminently as part of a “store consolidation programme”.

It will see the company go from having 2,200 stores to only 1,900 across the country.

The closures will have a huge impact on the staff, although bosses have said that anyone employed will be offered “alternative roles”.

A spokesman for Boots said: "We can confirm that the stores listed are part of the Boots store consolidation programme previously announced.

"All team members from these stores will be offered alternative roles."

So far, 14 stores have been given the death sentence, with eight already shutting, although the business has said that all those closing have an alternative store less than 300 miles away.

The closures will take place until some time in November.

News of the closures is another blow to the high street after Wilko appointed administrators earlier today.

The news puts 12,000 jobs at risk after a rescue deal was unable to be secured by the bosses – although chief executive Mark Jackson said the retailer had received rescue offers before it was forced to enter into administration.

The retailer confirmed it has appointed administrators from PwC.
