British woman collapses and dies on beach after swim in Sicilian sea

A British woman collapsed and died in front of her husband on a beach while just moments after she had been for a swim in the sea on holiday The unnamed 65-year-old was with her husband in Punta Secca, a fishing village in southern Sicily, when she became ill and died on Friday. The woman had decided to go swimming in the sea but she quickly felt unwell, according to reports from local media.

She managed to get out of the water and reach the nearby shore, but tragically collapsed and died soon after.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but unfortunately despite their best efforts, were not able to revive the woman.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death after conducting an autopsy.

Punta Secca is a small southern Italian fishing village and hamlet of Santa Croce Camerina, a municipality in the Province of Ragusa, Sicily.

It lies on the Mediterranean coast, between Punta Braccetto, Kaukana and Casuzze, and next to Marina di Ragusa.

The small fishing village is located 5km from Santa Croce Camerina, 16km from Scoglitti, 18km from Donnalucata and 27km from Scicli.

Recently, a 62-year-old British man died while on holiday with his wife on the Greek island of Crete.

The unnamed man had walked towards the sea on the beach of Stalida returned to his sunbed next to his wife after feeling unwell. But tragically, he died as he laid down on the sunbed.

An ambulance rushed to the scene and the man was pronounced dead, according to reports from local media. An autopsy will now be conducted in an attempt to reveal the man’s cause of death.

Meanwhile, a 74-year-old British woman drowned while holidaying on the Greek island. Her body was found washed up on a beach there on October 5.

Rescuers carried out CPS on her for 30 minutes, but she failed to respond. The woman was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately was pronounced dead.

Last month, a 45-year-old British woman died after becoming ill when she swam in the sea in Albufeira, Portugal.

She had collapsed on the beach and emergency services tried desperately to revive her, but she died on the shoreline.
