Brits still in Russia told ‘get out now or risk being sent to fight in Ukraine’

Brits in Russia with dual nationality are being warned to return home now or risk being drafted to fight in Ukraine.

It is thought about 4,000 UK nationals are still in Russia, including those who have citizenship in both countries.

This comes following the news Russian despot Vladimir Putin was planning to send a whopping 300,000 more soldiers to the battlefield in Ukraine after announcing a partial mobilisation last week (September 21).

The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) warned Brits: "British nationals holding Russian passports should be aware that they may be in scope for mobilisation, as the Russian government treats dual nationals with both British and Russian passports as Russian nationals.

"Border crossings and airports have been particularly busy since September 21. Allow extra time if you are travelling."

They added unless their presence was "essential", Brits should consider coming home.

The UK isn't the only country to issue such a caution – the US Embassy in Moscow also stressed: "Russia may refuse to acknowledge dual nationals’ US citizenship, deny their access to US consular assistance, prevent their departure from Russia, and conscript dual nationals for military service."

The embassy told its citizens who were currently in Russia to leave "immediately while limited commercial travel options remain".

Brits and Americans aren't alone as they scramble to attempt to leave Russia – thousands of Russian men have fled the country, with some even resorting to extreme measures such as shooting army recruitment officers and setting themselves on fire.

Huge crowds have swarmed to the country's airports to try to escape by any means.

Some have even reportedly quickly tied the knot or registered themselves as carers for the elderly or children in a desperate attempt to avoid conscription.

And there have now even been threats the Kremlin could shut Russian borders to stop men from fleeing the country.

Meanwhile, Russian women have protested against the mass mobilisation in the Dagestan region of the country.

Videos emerging from the demonstrations show brave ladies coming to blows with police as they tried to stop their men from being taken away.

They were heard chanting: "Don't let them take our men!"
