An inmate at the Delta Correctional Center, who escaped custody Saturday, was captured in Farmington, New Mexico.

Timothy O’Brien stole a vehicle from a worksite and cut off his electronic ankle monitor, the news release stated.

The Colorado Department of Corrections reported that Timothy O’Brien was believed to be driving a white 2008 Chevrolet Suburban with the license plate number ALS F39, according to a news release. O’Brien is 56 years old and is 6 feet tall and weighs 196 pounds. He is a minimum security inmate.

The corrections department inspector general will investigate the escape, the news release stated.

O’Brien was convicted in 2012 of aggravated robbery and sentenced to 16 years in prison. In 2017, he was convicted of smuggling contraband into a correctional facility and received a one-year sentence, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.

Delta Correctional Center houses 480 men, most of whom qualify for minimum security custody.
