Former designer of the iPhone reveals King Charles's coronation emblem

From Apples to roses: Former chief designer of the iPhone reveals King Charles’s coronation emblem inspired by the monarch’s love of nature

  • Sir Jony Ive said the design was inspired by King Charles’s ‘love of the planet’
  • The emblem includes the flora of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Paying tribute to the King’s well-known love of the natural world and the four nations of the United Kingdom, this is the new official coronation emblem.

Created by Sir Jony Ive, the former chief design officer at Apple and the man behind the iPhone, it includes the flora of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – the rose, the thistle, the daffodil and the shamrock.

They form the shape of St Edward’s Crown, which will be used for the crowning of King Charles on May 6 at Westminster Abbey.

The emblem, which was revealed last night by Buckingham Palace, has also been designed using the red, white and blue of the union jack.

It will feature throughout the historic celebrations in May, as well as national events, street parties and community gatherings.

The design will also be used for all official merchandise commemorating the coronation of the King and the Queen Consort, and across digital and social media.

Sir Jony, who created the emblems with his LoveFrom design collective, said: ‘It is such an honour to be able to contribute to this remarkable national occasion, and our team is so very proud of this work.

‘The design was inspired by King Charles’s love of the planet, nature, and his deep concern for the natural world. The emblem speaks to the happy optimism of spring and celebrates the beginning of this new Carolean era for the United Kingdom.

‘The gentle modesty of these natural forms combine to define an emblem that acknowledges both the joyful and profound importance of this occasion.’
