A WOMAN who won a life-changing £2.3million on the lottery keeps having the same nightmare every time she goes to sleep.

Esther Mboneye and her partner Aristide Nininahazwe won a luxury house worth £1.5 million and around £700,000 in cash on the lottery in Australia.

The couple, who fled war and refugee camps in Africa, broke down in tears as they were handed the keys to the property at Beck Street at Henley Beach, Adelaide.

Esther, Aristide and their three-year-old daughter Tiffany were given a tour of their new luxury four-bedroom home before they moved in.

The day they finished moving in a few weeks later, they welcomed their second child – a baby named Cairo.

An emotional Esther said she feels very "privileged" to be her in position.

But the mum-of-two said she has been having a recurring nightmare since she won the big bucks.

"Every time I would go to sleep I kept on having nightmares… like someone was going to come and knock on the door and say they made a mistake," she told Daily Mail Australia.

"We feel very privileged and lucky to be in this position, because not everybody gets this chance, so it is very overwhelming.

"It's everyone's dream. It's a dream come true."

Aristide said the family's life has been transformed over the last few months, saying it was "wonderful and scary at the same time".

The couple plan to keep working – but want to use the jackpot to create a better work-life balance.

Esther said: "We just want to set ourselves up for the future.

"At times we both did two or three jobs at a time and were barely home to spend time together.

"Kids our days grow up so fast. I think just to build memories while they are young and getting that opportunity is actually amazing.

"So it’s really good to be able to step on the brakes."

Aristide added: "Even before the win, we used to create memories. So now it is an opportunity to do what we’ve always wished to.

"Money is not everything. Memories mean a lot to me, they mean a lot to us."

The couple's single winning ticket was among 200,000 sold in the Hospital Research Foundation Group Home Lottery, 7News reports.

They said that as healthcare workers they bought a ticket because they simply wanted to give back to the medical research charity.

The couple were told the life changing news in a call from a radio station live on air, to which Aristide replied: “You’re joking.”

Esther, who is a nurse, came to Australia in 2005 as a refugee with her parents.

Originally from Burundi, her parents had left amid conflict in the 1970s for the Congo, where Esther was born some years later.

But when civil war broke out there they made their way to Australia.

Separately, Aristide, a disability support worker, fled fighting in Burundi in 2011 and met Esther at a wedding in 2014.

He said with the money he has won he can now finally visit his family, who he's not seen in 20 years.

The couple were in tears as they were shown their new home with Tiffany.

"We've been working hard for us to have a better life, because we used to move from one country to another, and it was war after war," Esther told Nine News.

Their new home has four bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen, resort-style pool, games room and a built-in barbecue.
